A Family of Two: Katja & Zoe

The Zialcitas captured in different moods. Surely, there are more from this set but these are my favorites and can go very well as a triptych. I particularly like the mood on the third one, very serene indeed.

Feeling Lost

Another set found recently: should finish developing all these (missing) film. I'm not sure if this was Singapore or Hongkong but either way, I think it's cool. They look like dinosaurs!

Last Flight: Travel Alone

A post long overdue: finally started developing the films I have stuck in a bag somewhere, thanks to tambolbee's prodding, actually. I don't remember how I felt then when I was taking these pictures but it sure looks like it was so sad when I passed through Hong Kong. This was around the time I was coming home from Dubai, when I decided to stay back here for good.

Boy Darko

All right, another photo from the vault. Took this in Manila about a year and a half ago with Chankol ...and Val could have been there too... but anyway, yes, i thought of putting it up here to remind me that I need to take new pictures.

This totally slipped my mind as I remember being so excited on taking this on site then just forgot about it right after developing. Cleaned it up a little after noticing that I didn't really do a very good job the first time around. Another significant thing is that I'm thinking of having this printed along with some other pictures on here; pieces to remind me to take more pictures everyday. Right...

People I Know: Mario

I took this picture around October of last year in Dubai. I'm not really sure why I took this picture but I remember Mario was getting ready for work while I was fooling around having breakfast. I just thought it strange how this picture captured Mario's general mood and anxiety. This was before he was sent home to the Philippines, a few days before everything went down.

My Sister & I: Exhibited Series

Alright, full set of the exhibited series is up. Opening night at Ductac was a blast but silly me, too awed and inspired, forgot to take pictures in film. So I guess there will be no posts for that on here. A lot of people who came were somewhat interested by my work so I guess I might consider that a success already. If you got time, do swing by at Ductac in MOE.

My Sister & I: Preview

No, this isn't the actual series 'My Sister & I'. Take this as a preview. This picture is part of the material I'm using for my next project up for exhibit next week, which I'll upload on here in full once it's over.

Call it serendipity or dumb luck but I really find this picture spooky which makes me like this picture a lot. Big thanks to Govinda and Bettina for helping me out on this one.

And yes, I cheated, in a way. Final pictures for exhibition were taken with a Canon 20D but with a CZ manual lens (big thanks go to Kamil for the 20D and standing in for 'the husband'). All materials were taken using my Rollei 35s and my Lomo LCA+. So there you go, that's where the old-school factor comes in.

Saxophone Player

Another set of musically oriented photos and again of the Afif Brothers but this time with Vaghan Heyrapetyan and that sax player whose name I didn't catch. I'll update this later. This was a Charlie Parker tribute so it was a lot of fun.

I thought I'd never upload this batch since obviously I've botched the developing of this film but I've managed to salvage some of them with some stupid amounts of cropping and editing. I've tried to work with the flaws as much as I can and in the end, they turned out passable.

Nighthawks: Feet

Ok, so i thought of a different project all together since the 'People I Know' project didn't pan out. Though I've done some stuff for that project, it didn't seem like it was worthy of putting it up on here.

As the title suggests, this will be a series of random night shots that I'll be coming across from here on out, all push processed and all deliciously under-lit. I hope I'll be able to sustain this 'coz I've been working on a lot of other projects right now and the lazy bug is right around the corner ready to pounce whenever I'm not watching.

People I Know: Peewee

So, I was looking through my old pictures the other night, trying to see if there's something I should expand into a full blown project. I saw this picture of Peewee I took the day after I got my Rollei, the day after my 31'st birthday. I realized that all my pictures on here have no people in them that I know. I thought about that and realized that I've always been afraid to turn on my people skills when it comes to taking pictures. So as a motivation, I've posted this on here to get me to work on my square format with people in them, people I know and nothing but...

DIY Red Filter

I got a nice deal for filters for my Rollei in Quiapo and I decided to use the skylight as a red filter using a red marker. Supposedly, red filters make blue hues appear darker on black and white. Apparently, you have to use the real deal to get the real effect

Dubai Streets

This set was created early July but I've just put them up today. These were the first few shots I took from the ill-fated Ilford50 that got messed up so they have the same sun bleached effect which I like a lot.

Travel: Singapore in B&W

A messed up developing time turned out great on an Ilford50. Hurray for happy accidents :)

Creative Contact: Result

This is the result of the collaborative effort Drawonphoto. I'm so impressed by the illustration I feel like i want to do some more. Well, we'll see what Dwynn (the illustrator) has to say about that. I really hope we can do some more. Of course, if someone else out there wants to collaborate, drop me a line at fluidmail@gmail.com

Creative Contact: A forest

Here's a set for the collaborative effort Drawonphoto project in which an artist draws on a picture. My bit is looking weird at the moment although I can't wait for the results to come. I took these at Safa Park in the middle of the day meaning I thought I'd die of heat stroke! I was using this old folding camera (ADOX) courtesy of Kamil of helloanalog.com and wasn't expecting those light leaks in the middle of the frame. Now it looks like a scene from Hansel and Gretel.

Abri: Black & White Soul

As far as I can remember, (this obviously is a very late post) that night was undoubtably soul. (more pictures later)

Ziryab: Space Guitars

Here's another set off this music thing I'm into at the moment all from The Fridge. Ziryab plays stylized space guitars with the volume going up to 11 all the while fusing elements of jazz, world, latin and some Stevie Wonder on the side. This music phase really is a re-visitation of a previous obsession I once had with music and bands only this time it's on film!

The Afif Quintet: Jazz In Black & White

I'm kinda into jazz like a bystander to a marathon. A spectator to a sport so into itself that it will exist as long as there are marathoners. Jazz is like that, kind of... jazz will be there as long as jazz musicians are willing to learn and play for themselves whether or not someone will listen. But like marathon, even if you don't run yourself, you will always root for those who are crazy enough to go the distance. And that's how jazz is for me; I will always appreciate the music these jazzmen create whether or not I understand the music they're playing.
